Meet the Extractor from your favorite of all the dispensaries in Massachusetts!

We were lucky to spend some time with Joe Rosenthal, the Extractions Process Specialist at our Worcester cannabis production facility. Joe gives us the inside scoop on his work in creating Wax, Shatter, Budder and Live Resin for our Massachusetts cannabis dispensaries.

First, we wanted to say “thank you” for the products you make — we’re big fans of your work. Tell us a little about yourself — how long have you been in the cannabis industry?

I have enjoyed a little over 3 years in the commercial cannabis industry all at Temescal Wellness. Prior to working in the cannabis industry, I spent about 8 years at a much larger corporation many of you may be familiar with, Dell Technologies (formerly EMC), working as a Manufacturing Engineering Tech in the Global Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering department aka New Product Development.

Something tells us the products you develop now are MUCH different. What is it about extractions that has kept you here?

My favorite part of working in Extractions is constantly learning about new processes and techniques to help create the best quality products possible for consumers.

And while I’m here, a word for anyone curious about extracts — one of the best pieces of advice I could give to someone who would like to explore extractions is to start small and work your way up to larger doses. Concentrates are super potent so you only need a tiny bit to go a long way. Overindulging in concentrates could cause unwanted side-effects due to their potency if the consumer is new to concentrates.

Good advice. We always say “start low and go slow.” What is your favorite thing to make?

My favorite type of concentrate to make is Budder Wax due to its smooth, creamy consistency loaded with delicious terpenes.

How do you unplug outside of work?

In my spare time, I enjoy spending as much time as possible with my 2 sons, Jack and Oliver, and my beautiful wife Catie. I am an avid outdoorsman so much of that time is spent fishing, hiking, boating and enjoying all sorts of fun activities with my family.

What advice would you give to someone looking to get started in the cannabis industry?

I would highly recommend researching as much as possible on the subject as well as networking with individuals already in the industry. There is the potential for exponential growth as long as you are willing to put in the work. Lastly and perhaps most importantly, fill out the applications and start going to interviews. Just like any industry, don’t be discouraged if you don’t land your dream job right away, as it is easy to carve your own path to reach that dream once you are in. Don’t be afraid to follow your dreams!

Temescal Wellness serves guests with a variety of high-quality cannabis medicines and education, in strict compliance with state and local rules and regulations. Shop our menus and visit our job listings to see available positions.
